Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta visits India

This week Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta is in India as part of New Zealand’s move to reconnect with the world.

Mahuta flew to New Delhi on Waitangi Day and will return on February 12.

On the agenda are meetings with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda. A trip to Mumbai has also been organised, where Mahuta will promote New Zealand trade, education, and tourism.

In a statement released over the weekend, Mahuta said “When Minister Jaishankar visited Aotearoa New Zealand last year, we both agreed that the relationship was ready for its next phase.”

“I look forward to building on this momentum and sharing our progress to join the International Solar Alliance, which India and France established in 2015 to promote solar energy cooperation and climate action globally,” Mahuta said.

Alongside discussions on private sector collaboration, improved air services, and indigenous engagement, she will also meet with the Chair of the India New Zealand Business Council and host a roundtable with NZTE representatives.

“Reconnecting New Zealand remains a key priority as we look to strengthen our economic resilience and progress ties with our international partners,” Mahuta said.
